Around 430,000 years ago, an early Neanderthal suffered two devastating blows to the forehead. Their skull, discovered at Sima de los Huesos in northern Spain, provides some of the earliest convincing evidence of murder in the human fossil record. Other skulls from the same site also show possible evidence of violent attacks, suggesting that interpersonal violence was not an isolated occurrence among these ancient humans.
