Spiderman famously does whatever a spider can—including spinning webs and bounding though the air. But what about the superhero’s habit of slinging perfectly aimed webs to catch nimble nemeses?
Turns out he gets that from spiders, too: Researchers reported in 2024 that ray spiders not only catapult their sticky webs to ensnare mosquitoes, but also accurately detect where and how fast their prey is moving.
