How 1942 Set the Stage for Allied Triumph in WWII

By the Spring of 1942, German armies were deep inside the Soviet Union, on the offensive in North Africa, and in control of virtually the whole of Western Europe. In the Far East, Japanese forces roamed freely over an area that stretched from Burma to half-way across the Pacific, from Japan’s northern isles to New Guinea. In this episode we see the events of the week of the battle of Midway, the beginning of Hitler’s summer offensive - Case Blue, and the beginning of what would become the long-fought battle of Stalingrad. Then, in the middle of 1942, in Operation Supercharge in North Africa, the Axis tasted defeat for the first time, and by the end of the year, the Americans would achieve a groundbreaking milestone in the development of atomic weapons. In the weeks ahead, leaders would meet in Casablanca and in Cairo, one of the biggest selling songs in history would appear, fighting would sweep the Axis out of North Africa, a German army would be crushed at Stalingrad, and a mighty tank battle would finally and irrevocably swing the hinge of fate.
