Inside Vogelherd Cave, archaeologists uncovered something extraordinary: small animals carved from mammoth ivory that are over 30,000 years old. Dating to between 40,000 and 30,000 years ago, these are among the oldest known figurative artworks from anywhere in the world. They were made by people of the Aurignacian culture of Ice Age Europe from about 43,000 years ago.
