In June 1462, a vast Ottoman army under Sultan Mehmed II advanced on the city of Târgoviște in Wallachia. The sight of 20,000 impaled soldiers was more than the Ottomans could take and they retreated. Vlad III Dracula was the son of a Voivode of Wallachia yet he had to fight all his life for his throne and his people.
